The awesomeness of these episodes can be blinding.  But, I shall try to move past the blindness and pick out the commentary that catch my eye, as per usual.  Once again, all comments taken from The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5.  Sound bytes are from the Down Below Sound Archive.

A Voice in the Wilderness, aka where we learn and memorize the Babylon 5 Mantra. )

Babylon Squared, aka Timey Wimey fun times. Do you fasten then zip, or zip then fasten? XD )

Quality of Mercy, aka in which we learn more than we ever wanted to about Centuari anatomy! )

Chrysalis, aka "And so it begins." )

Two down, one left to go!  As always, people are welcome to join us.  Just let me know and I'll update you when we decide to start watching. Also, Nar is now through the end of season one.  This makes me happy.  :XD

Super marathon!  We pushed through to the end of the first season, so there will be a lot this time.  I'll probably break this up into two or three posts. As usual, all comments taken from The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5.

Signs and Portents, aka What do you want? )

TKO, aka the *other* Shiva, Nar... )

Grail, aka TENTACLE MONSTER FUN TIMES. )

Eyes, aka Motorcycle Madness )

Legacies, aka Neroon! )

Anyway, once again, if anyone else is interested in joining us for our watchalongs, just let me know.

So, it's that time again.  Mem is reading commentary and writing responses with the episodes much more fresh on her memory this time.  We'll see how long this lasts.  Also, JMS' comments will now be in italics.  I'm trying to find a way I like to set it apart more from my comments.  As usual, all comments taken from The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5.  Sound bites are from the Down Below Sound Archive.

The War Prayer, aka Londo's view on arranged marriages. )

And the Sky Full of Stars, aka THERE IS A HOLE IN YOUR MIND redux. )

Deathwalker, aka the Vorlons' favorite hobby is trolling. )

Believers, aka that religious and moral mind fuck that my younger self has never quite forgiven them for. )

Survivors, aka the episode Mr. Garibaldi has a really hard time. )

By Any Means Necessary, aka Londo takes great pleasure in messing up G'kar's life. )

So, that's about it for this watch-a-long.  Which, btw, if you're interested in joining just let me know.  They've been fairly spur of the moment things so far, but there's no reason why we can't have more people.

Okay, okay.  Back for more Lurker's Guide commentary. Once again, my original source is the guide itself, and the audio clips are from the Down Below Sound Archive.  That stated, let us commence with the singing to dinners, drunken escapes, and deliberate femslash subtexts.  And surprisingly, one of the reasons I've never been a big RTD fan too.  Not sure how that snuck in there, but it happened.  Plus, at least two fics that I need to exist.  So if you know of them, please point me their way.

Born to the Purple, aka Londo the romantic. )

Infection, aka why we should go to the stars. )

The Parliament of Dreams, aka G'kar sings to his dinner. )

Mind War, aka the episode Walter Koenig becomes one of the most awesome Bad Guys ever. Star Trek, you totally casted him wrong. )

So, this should be the last of my commentaries for a while, at least until Nar agrees to another day of B5 watching.  Speaking of... *gives Nar kitten eyes*  You wouldn't happen to have a free day any time soon?

I've been tossing around an idea to actually go through the Lurker's Guide while re-watching Bablyon 5 with Nar.  It's something I've done before with specific episodes that I watch frequently, but I've never actually gone through the whole of it.  Which is ridiculous considering how much I love this show and what a great resource it is.  I mean, how many other shows do you know of that the head writer/creator/producer of the show answers valid questions about every single episode as they were aired?

So for now, I think I might start recording some of my responses to it here.  No, it's not quite fic related, but he's got some comments about writing in general that I think really apply to me.  Besides, with as much as I learned about writing stories from B5, it'll probably be insightful.  Maybe.  Maybe not.  Maybe I'll just talk about Spoo.  However, there is a hope that good things might come from this.

And if a causal reader decides that, hey, this show Mem keeps talking about sounds interesting!  I should go check it out!  We~ll, I wouldn't stop you. <3  No, not at all.  Spoilers are a bit of a given, but they won't be spoilers for the whole of the series, just that specific episode.    Anything in quotes will be from the JMS Speaks section of The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5 unless otherwise noted.

The Gathering, aka THERE'S A HOLE IN YOUR MIND! )

Midnight on the Firing Line, aka Mem's thoughts on Spoo. )

Soul Hunter, aka the episode which does a brilliant job of not actually defining a soul. )

And wow, this is a lot longer than I thought this would be.  I guess I'll split the episodes we got through into two posts.  I'll work on the others later.

In short... Do yourself a favor and watch B5.  Really.  But hey, don't take my word for it.  XD  See for yourself.

...to relate this to fic.  Really, I'm not.  But someone needs to hear my Kodansha ravings.

Cue to Mem ranting about Sailor Moon. )
Okay, so [livejournal.com profile] tardiscrash and [livejournal.com profile] bagheera_san sort of inadvertently got me into reading Avengers fics.  Which has lead to some strange musing on my part...

View the cut for some talk of sexy times and lack thereof. )
Really, Livejournal? Really?

Okay, take two. For the record, I hate whatever they've done to the new editor. Because now you can't edit anything, even in html, without it getting completely fucked up in a way that apparently couldn't be fixed. I had to delete the last post and start a new one. Alright, alright, end rant... Sorry for everyone on my flist the non-working cuts.

So this is technically supposed to be a journal for fic. Except I feel the love for this novel needs to be spread and there's not really enough Master in this one for me to feel comfortable posting this over on b_e. Maybe if a few of my flist think it Relevant to Our Interests over there, I'll consider it. For now though, here is a review of Deadly Reunion by Terrance Dicks and Barry Letts.

Warning: Much fangirling past this cut. )

More indepth spoiler-ish bits )

Anyway, this got long. Very long. Just know, to sum up, the book is awesome and well worth reading. I might be able to... *cough*borrow*cough* the book out, if you catch my drift, if anyone wants to read it. Just let me know and I'll send it via email or something. Fair warning, I don't think a lot of time was spent on the pdf file, so there are a lot of typos and things. It can get bothersome at times.
Some mostly non-spoiler-ish excerpts )
